The first thing I want to mention is the performance. On KitKat, performance throughout the UI was… well, it was just sluggish. Dropped frames, stuttering, freezing… all that is fixed in Lollipop 5.1.1. The notification bar is also improved. For one, it’s not ugly as it used to be. It’s transparent and not white as it used to be. On one tab, you have all of your notifications, on the other tab you have all of your shortcuts – WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, screen brightness etc.
The stock Huawei launcher didn’t see much of an upgrade. And I personally don’t really like it much, and I use the Google Now launcher. It works perfectly. The camera app, however saw some improvements. Time-laps is now available, and the picture processing is a bit faster. The screen recorder also works fine, have no problems with it.
The update itself was OK. I didn’t receive the update via OTA, I have downloaded it manually and installed it by myself. The update took around 20 minutes.
You can download the update here.
So, with this update, you get better performance, better camera app, nice animations etc. What am I exacting of the update? Better battery life and to at least partially fix the overheating issue.
